Our Restaurant

Part of what makes Stonewalls stand out is its story and stewardship. The restaurant has been a Banner Elk staple since 1985, originally opened by John and Ann Carriere and later purchased by Scott Garland and Tim Heschke, who refreshed the space and expanded the menu while keeping the classics that guests expect.

Stonewalls is known for a chef-driven approach that blends “new” dishes with long-standing favorites—anchored by a prime rib house specialty and a lineup of steaks and seafood that keeps people coming back. You’ll see popular steakhouse staples like ribeye, New York strip, and filet-style offerings featured prominently, plus plenty of seafood options—making it a go-to for both celebratory dinners and “we’re in town, we have to eat there” nights.

Testimonials

Highly recommend!

My husband and I did not have a reservation, so we had to wait for about 30 minutes on a Friday night. The bartenders and servers were all really good at their jobs. The restaurant was packed. There was a man in the corner of the bar area playing guitar. I enjoyed the live music. He did stop playing about halfway through our meal. I guess his time was over. You can tell who the locals are. The bartenders and servers already knew their orders when the person sat down.
I had the filet with mashed sweet potato, husband had the chicken fettuccine. The potato skins were delicious. We had them as an appetizer. Our adult beverages were tasty. This place is nice, and it does cost a bit more than a chain restaurant would have cost. Your paying for the experience though.

The whole night was very memorable in the BEST

We had a reservation and it got lost somehow but Maggie at the front desk figured out a way to get us seated even though there was a 2 and a half hour wait without a reservation. I’m not sure what happened to our reservation but they did what they needed to do to work it out. We were so grateful. Our server, RJ was very funny and provided excellent service. When I order dessert for myself and my wife said she didn’t want any… Maybe a bite or two of mine, he said he would bring her a smaller spoon. When it arrived he brought me a HUGE serving spoon from the kitchen which was so funny. We had an excellent experience thanks to Maggie and RJ. The food was exquisite. I had a perfectly cooked Filet and my wife had the largest pork chop I think I’ve ever seen. The whole night was very memorable in the BEST of ways. Thank you for making our 23rd anniversary celebration so special!!

10/10 recommend

Our waiter Josh was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and other things. The food was amazing. I had the Emperor Cut Prime Rib and the twice baked potato and my wife had the Filet Mignon with a baked potato. The Mississippi Mud Pie was delectable and the bartender was excellent. We also tried escargot for the first time and it was absolutely delicious. The salad bar was also worth the $8.

Perfect service. A 12/10

We just left. Jessica B was our server who is an absolute doll. Attentive without being overbearing. Perfect service. A 12/10. Food was spot on. Everything was lovely. Thank you for a great evening as usual. A real gem in Banner Elk.
